Young Les & Family

Who doesn't love Al Green?  We chose this song because... well... he was great,  and he knew it (and told us all the time, how great he was) what a fitting song to play for him.

Who didn't love this guy?   When we asked his friends what songs came to mind for Les... they immediately said:

"Hot Hot Hot"  & "Mambo #5"  aka "the Osenda Mambo.

There are great stories behind these songs,  and we will get them written up to share with you soon. 

Irelyn wrote her dad a message and shared it with us on the day of his service.   Her slide show doesn't have music because she spoke during it.   We will add a message from Irelyn soon.

My Mom asked me what songs we should play for this slideshow, and this song immediately came to my head.  

It started playing one night and my Dad was singing along to it.  I turned to him and asked "How do you know this song?"... he said he had it on every single one of his playlists (we checked, he did not).  After that he added it to all his playlists and when the song came on he would obnoxiously sing along and then turn to me and say "how do YOU know this song?"

I (Candice)  chose these songs for us for many reasons.... 

Muriel helped choose Just Breathe-  at first it was going to be Willie Nelson (but let's face it,  that just isn't Les)  Pearl Jam was the best choice, and we will "see you on the other side".

As for the William Bell song:

Those that know us well,  know that we had a really questionable 'song' it was a funny slow 'end of the night' song that just happened to be playing and sort of became our song.   For the last 3-4 years I had hounded Les that we needed a new song... some of our friends said 'you can't change your song!  your song is your song!'   but it was time.   I badgered and joked with him constantly "hey this can be our song!" ... until one day I heard it.   I played it for him and he just smiled at me, and said nothing.   It would play in the car and I would sing it to him & he humored me.   The day we lost him,  I could hear this song ringing in my ears- like someone was holding a speaker right behind me.  

I thought about it,  and felt that I would keep this song for 'us'  that maybe people wouldn't understand if I added it (because hey... it wasn't really our song).

At first we were only going to have one song (Just Breathe).   The slide shows were too long, and I was asked what I wanted to do.  1.  delete 50 photos?  2. repeat the pearl jam song or 3. Find another song.   When I asked how much time we needed to fill that space-  I was told 2min, 50 seconds.   This song comes in at 2.52, so in my mind it was a sign,  we really had found our song and now I would like to share it with you.
